The Studio

This is the story of our new studio. I'm moving in with Neil Tweddle & Paul Flack.

Our aim is simple – work in a creative environment and produce design greatness.

In the begining

First viewing of the studio. Except from Neil, the Pieff chairs and err...the coat. Everything is going – including the ceiling.

The magnificent Pieff chairs

Previous tenants threw in the chairs. Shame they hadn't thrown out the carpet.

08-08-2012

Sticky

Contracts signed and a month to get the studio to how we want it – we start by ripping the carpet up.

We're left with a nasty yellow adhesive. Which is proving tricky to get rid of.

Yep...turns out you can't get rid of it! But think i prefer the glue to the old carpet and besides...we are going for the industrial look.

The ceiling and partition

Time to go my friends.

02-09-2012

Oriented Strand Board

We're all getting slightly obsessed about OSB and building our studio table.

Neil sees red

Final preparations to the red wall before painting it white.

12-09-2012

The ceiling and partition

We now have an open plan studio with high ceilings and strip lighting.

The View

Our Norwich skyline.

17-09-2012

The painting begins

It's all about Unit No.6

26-09-2012

We are making progress

A Pieff admiring the white walls, but ignoring the floor.

27-09-2012

Tool up

Scrapers at the ready, time to hit the floor.

28-09-2012

Ring the alarm.

Fire discovered at the studio.

28-09-2012

Tuff Tub

Slowly slowly, it fills up with unwanted floor glue.

28-09-2012

Progress is slow

But rewarding.

28-09-2012

Pieffs wait patiently.

Approximately 12 hours of scraping and a couple of coats of paint and we are done.

29-09-2012

Latest to join the team

The king of all scrappers. "Jumbo Super Stripper", as Neil pointed out, this sounds like a dodgy stag do.

30-09-2012

Painting continues.

The walls show scars from previous tenants - which we quite like. One coat to go.

04-09-2012

Scrubber

We now have a collection of wire brushes to attack the floor.

04-10-2012

Our hero.

The humble steamer. Great for the pores and removing glue.

04-10-2012

Late night

Having steamed, scrapped and scrubbed and steamed - the end is in sight.

04-10-2012

Scrapping continues

It looks like the studio will be working on a grid. Josef Müller Brockmann will be pleased.

07-10-2012

Tuff tub

No tough enough.

08-10-2012

Another day scrubbing

Hands beginning to ache. Might have underestimated the task. 1/6 of the floor left to scrub.

10-10-2012

You can do it, put your back in to it.

Final bit of floor glue is removed.

12-10-2012

Scraping done.

It has taken three designers 23 hours, 7 different scrapers, 19 scraper blades, 14litres of white spirits, 20 litres of water, two tuff tubs, two chisels & three almost broken souls to remove 44meter sq of floor glue.

12-10-2012

Sweep.

Quick clear of debris before washing the floor.

12-10-2012

Mopping begins.

And quickly ends.

13-10-2012

The floor is done

Can't quite believe it is finished - Now need to find something else to obsess about.

13-10-2012

Painting

The final lick goes on

16-10-2012

Painting

Edges done - Painting done. Lets just ignore the splot of paint on the floor.

21-10-2012

We've got mail.

20 bulldog clips arrive at the studio. Not the most exciting bit of news - but it is always nice to get a parcel.

23-10-2012

"Industrial Chic"

This is a phrase that the studio has coined to describe anything we've painted that looks good from a distance. We now have some posters in the studio too. Just need somewhere to hang them.

23-10-2012

Cleats

Fixtures are being put up.

23-10-2012

Finally

Books start appearing in the studio.

24-10-2012

Bulldog clips

Couldn't resist.

29-10-2012

Made in Britain

My Skuda skateboard has provided many moments of distractions and one spectacular slam - I don't bounce like I use to.

12-11-2012

Paul Moves In

and brings some of his album artwork and a ball – who's going to be the first to break a window?

29-11-2012

MONOCLE

Thanks Neil.

A new studio in Norwich

FOLK+FORM

19-01-2013

Olympia Traveller Typewriter

The studio fills up with stuff as we slowly de-clutter our homes.

03-01-2013

Beverages

Finally...the studio can offer tea, coffee and a wee beer on a Friday.

14-02-2013

Box Fresh

A nice pair of Puma Easy Riders 1978 has entered the studio. Finally – a use for the "Teen-Wolf" locker.
